“ Great little place to grab lunch or dinner. Super casual and very engaging dining area. Staff is very attentive and the service is quick. I tried their dark meat platter with Mac and cheese and baked beans. Chicken was very moist and flavorful. Hot is not really hot if you like spice. The mad and cheese was underwhelming but the baked beans were very flavorful. Coke slaw was ok but not something that I would order more of. Really good food at a good price with great service. Absolutely worth a try and I'll be back. ”
“ Food was amazing, staff were attentive, was seated immediately! Really enjoyed chatting with Michael who was very friendly and easy to connect with. Highly recommend this spot for a solid meal! Sweet tea was delicious too! ”
“ The good: -The fried chicken doesn't disappoint. Great flavor and a bit a of heat in the seasoning. -Service was super attentive. The not so good: -The sides (mac & cheese, beans) were pretty lackluster. -A little pricey consider portion size. -Located DT so parking can be rough depending on the day/hour. Is it the best fried chicken I've ever had? No, but I would stop in again and double down on the chicken skipping the sides. ”
“ My friend took me here and it is my first time trying Gus's Chicken despite living in Austin most my life. The restaurant had quite a bit of people eating there during lunch time on this Saturday but there is plenty of seating! Immediately upon entering we were seated at a table and our server took our order quickly. The menu here is pretty simple so it shouldn't be too difficult to decide on what to get here if it's also your first time here. We got the fried pickles and four piece chicken legs which come with two sides. Fried pickles came out hot and were great. One thing to note is that all of their chicken is "spicy" but the chicken does not have much of a kick to it. This place differs from other fried chicken places where the chicken isn't rolled in breadcrumbs before frying but the chicken still is very crispy and juicy. The chicken was a pretty standard fried chicken in my opinion. Overall, I consider this a good place to stop by for lunch maybe during the workweek as it is in downtown. Personally, this meal was good but not sure if I would go out of my way to come here. Would give this place another visit if I was already in the area though. ”
“ We were craving lunch after leaving the Texas State Capitol building so we decided on Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken near our hotel. We were immediately sat at a table and we ordered water and a root beer float. We decided on a 2 piece dark meat plate with slaw and fried okra. We also got a 2 piece white meat snack. The food is made fresh to order so our chicken was piping hot when it reached us. We asked for additional ketchup and a small side of ranch dressing. It hit the spot. No matter where we go, Gus's fried chicken is consistently delicious. We were satisfied with our meal and the service from our server, Jen. ”
“ Not what I'd call fine dining, but great fried chicken. It's been a while since we've been here but we were talking about fried chicken one night and this is pretty close to where we parked to go row Sunday morning, so we stopped by. I was NOT impressed by my chicken when it first came out... looks pretty unimpressive and overdone. But wow it was super tasty - very moist inside a slightly spicy super crispy skin. Not sure how they got the skin so crispy but it was awesome. The fries were also great, slightly crunchy on the outside, melty inside. If they were thinner they would have reminded me of McD's fries a long time ago. I didn't like the cole slaw, it was too sweet and I prefer vinegar-based slaw in any case. Service was friendly and quick. Overall a nice place to have good fried chicken that's not slathered in sauce. ”
“ I've been going to Gus's for years now because the service is fantastic, the chicken in so tender and crispy and you cannot beat the prices. They have kept their menu and prices the same through a pandemic and crazy inflation, which I can appreciate. Their batter is perfection, just the right amount of spice and so crispy without being overly greasy. You have so many option to choose from, white, dark, tenders, breast, legs etc. The Mac and cheese is always my go-to side but the beans and slaw are on point as well. Start with the fried pickles and you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for a laid back spot to grab a bite while downtown that won't break the bank, Gus's is your spot!! ”
“ Gus' doesn't seem to need anymore reviews, but they deserve all the props! I came with a group of 6 on a Thursday around 2 PM. The restaurant wasn't super busy so we were able to be sat right away. The restaurant isn't huge, but does have a good number of tables that could potentially be moved together if you had a party larger than 6. Our server did a great job--he was super attentive to our table and remained friendly throughout our meal. Drinks were never empty and he checked in on us throughout, which I definitely appreciate. I ordered the 2-piece combo with dark meat with a side of fries and Mac and cheese. The chicken was moist and delicious--that batter spice caught me off guard. It has a small kick to it, but I say that in the best way possible. Mac and cheese was pretty good as well. The fries were just fries, nothing too special about them, but they have a pretty good list of sides you can choose from depending on what you're feeling. Washed it all down with sweet tea. Overall a great experience here, and for great and reasonable pricing too!! Will definitely be coming back! ”
“ This place is awesome for fried chicken! My guys and I come here for lunch every now and then. The chicken here is very delicious and juicy. One it was really fresh off the fryer, two the chicken was not dry at all, and three the fried chicken tasted like fried chicken. Like it was fried in clean fresh oil or oil that wasn't mixed in with other fried stuff. Thankfully it wasn't super busy for lunch. We were seated promptly for a group of four. The noise level was pretty low. So you can have a decent conversation with your group. The place inside is cool as can be and definitely clean facility all around. The wait staff is even better because no one seemed to be mad at the world. They seemed to enjoy working there. Our waiter kept checking on us and refilling our drinks without us asking. We are definitely going to continue to come back periodically for lunch. Only issue I could find was parking because of the downtown area. But don't let that detour you from trying this place out! ”
